For local searches such as “best physiotherapy clinic near Baner” or “CA firm in Wagholi for GST filing”, AI answers lean heavily on business listing data: Google Business Profile for Google’s AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini, Bing Places for Microsoft Copilot, Apple Business Connect for Siri and Apple Maps, and local directories and reviews for the others. A complete, accurate profile with specific services, real photos and steady genuine reviews, backed by a matching location page on your website, is the foundation for being recommended.
How local answers are built
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance comes from how well your profile matches the search, distance from the searcher’s location, and prominence from how well known the business is, including reviews and mentions across the web. AI answers for local questions draw on the same listing data and add information from websites and review platforms. That is why the profile comes first and the website supports it.
Step 1: complete the profile properly
| Field | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| Business name | Your real trading name, exactly as on signage and the website, with no added keywords |
| Primary category | The most specific category that describes the main business |
| Additional categories | Only other services you genuinely offer |
| Services and products | Each service listed separately with a short description and price range where possible |
| Description | What you do, for whom and where, in plain sentences |
| Address and service area | Identical to your website and other listings |
| Hours, including holidays | Always current |
| Photos | Real photos of the premises, team and work, added regularly |
| Website link | The matching location or service page, not only the home page |
Adding keywords to the business name is against Google’s guidelines and can lead to suspension. Specific services and categories do the job properly.
Step 2: build a matching page on your website
Each location should have a page that states the full address, phone, hours, services offered at that location, how to reach it, and a map. Use LocalBusiness structured data with the same details. When the profile and the page agree, systems can connect them with confidence. Our NAP consistency guide explains why exact matches matter.
Step 3: reviews
- Ask every satisfied customer, soon after the service, with the direct review link or a QR code at the counter.
- Reply to every review, briefly and specifically.
- Never buy reviews, offer rewards for them, or post them yourself. Google removes them and can restrict the profile, and India’s IS 19000:2022 standard for online reviews treats paid and fake reviews as unacceptable.
Reviews that mention the specific service and area, in the customer’s own words, are especially useful, because they add relevance for those searches. You can ask customers to mention what you did for them, but not what to write.
Step 4: cover the other platforms
| Platform | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Bing Places | Feeds Bing Maps and Microsoft Copilot; can be imported from Google Business Profile |
| Apple Business Connect | Feeds Apple Maps and Siri |
| Justdial, Sulekha and category sites such as Practo | Widely used in India and often cited for local questions |
| Facebook and Instagram business pages | Additional confirmation of name, address and hours |
Step 5: test local answers
Every month, ask the assistants the questions your customers ask, including the area name: “best [service] in [area]”, “[service] near [landmark]”, “[service] open on Sunday in [area]”. Record who is named and which sources are cited, as described in tracking brand mentions. If a competitor is named from a directory you are not on, list there.
Businesses with several locations
- One verified profile per real location, each with its own page on the website
- No profiles for virtual offices or addresses where you do not serve customers, which break Google’s guidelines
- Consistent naming across locations, for example “Brand Name, Baner” and “Brand Name, Wagholi” only if that is how the business is known
Frequently asked questions
Do Google Business Profile posts help?
They keep the profile active and can show offers and updates. Their direct effect on rankings is not documented by Google; treat them as useful for customers first.
How many reviews do we need?
There is no published number. A steady flow of recent, detailed reviews matters more than a total.
Can a service-area business without a shop appear?
Yes. Set a service area and hide the address in the profile, as Google’s guidelines require for businesses that visit customers.
